It is sickening, and it is not going away. Abuse in adult group homes continues to be a problem turning up pressure for many communities to find alternatives. Recently Advoserv Inc. in Baltimore, MD, was sued by the state of Maryland for failing to provide adequate care. This story was shared by Disability Scoop.

Attempts to Cover Up Abuse

Occasionally, the provider attempts to cover-up abuse.  I recently shared a story about Harmony House in Devils Lake doing just that.  Community based services that support independent living for those with disabilities are vital for people to leave facilities that lack adequate care and compassion.

Disability Integration Act

This is a big reason that the Disability Integration Act needs to pass.  This would prohibit states and insurance companies from denying community based services to people with disabilities that would allow them to live independently in the community.
