Freedom Friday: Walking in your shoes
You will never really know what it is like for someone else until you experience it yourself. So how do we help others and how do we know what their struggles are? Ask. You may not fully understand what it is like but you can ask what it is that you can do to help that person when and if they need it. This applies to any person with a disability that you can or cannot see and most people are willing to share with you their experiences in hopes that the conversation will help others as well to be more understanding and inclusive.
This is why peer support is so important, there is a certain kind of special connection with people who are experiencing the same thing as you; no matter what kind of struggle you are facing there is always someone who has been there and they are valuable in overcoming the barriers you face.
