When we talk about preparing for the future, we always think of for when we are older.  But what if you were just preparing to begin your journey?  What type of things will you do?  For people with limited experiences with work, socializing, or even budgeting money, it is critical to get practice early on.  Everyone is different, and learns at a pace that works for them.  When we talk about transition, we are referring to going from one stage of life to another.  Beth Dewald from Freedom Resource Center knows that a healthy transition starts early.  Beth is an Independent Living Advocate for Freedom who also works in the classroom to help students achieve growth and experience with life skills.  These are things you take with you far beyond the classroom.

Social Skills

Whether it is talking about your favorite movie or restaurant, developing social skills are important for your entire life.  Social skills can help someone to build and maintain positive relationships at a new job or meet new friends and attend events together.  Both of the previous scenarios are something that Freedom In Action provides. Freedom In Action is a free activity that is hosted by Freedom Resource Center in Fergus Falls, Fargo, Jamestown, Wahpeton and Lisbon.  The activities vary depending on the time of year and all focus on healthy lifestyles and hobbies.  Freedom In Action is a great way to meet new people, learn a new skill and enjoy some good food.  Whether it is cooking or crafting, de-cluttering or growing vegetables without a garden, there is something for everyone.  The best part about Freedom In Action is you get to take your creation home with you, and with it you also take home something you may never thought of.  Working together, sharing stories, really being there is an experience that inspires personal growth to prepare you for your future.  For more information about a Freedom In Action or Life Skills class near you call 1-800-450-0459.
