Actors come in all shapes and sizes. It’s about time Hollywood embraces that fact by actually hiring people with disabilities to portray a character with a disability. Photo credit: Diversityuk.org

When Hollywood hires able bodied actors to portray characters with a disability, it sends a message that doesn’t sit well with advocates and people with disabilities.  Just four years ago the Washington Post shared this article talking about how almost all characters with disabilities were played by able bodied actors.  Fast forward to the present day.  Actors with disabilities are seeing roles increase, and shows that feature actors with disabilities are getting new life.  Check out this story on Disability Scoop.  Also, Apple TV features a show called ‘See‘ which nearly the entire cast and crew are visually impaired.

If you or someone you know feels they are marginalized because of a disability please call Freedom Resource Center at 1-800-450-0459 or visit us at freedomrc.org.
