What’s Right Wednesday: Team works with West Acres for accessible parking

 In #zerobarriers, What’s Wrong Wednesday

Freedom Resource Center’s Accessibility Specialist, Jerry Christianson, and a few other awesome individuals including Keith and Sherry Bjornson, Scott Stenvold, and Mark Fournier have worked hard this past year with the West Acres mall in Fargo, ND to make sure their parking lot was fully accessible to people with disabilities; West Acres parking lot now has correctly labeled accessible spaces for parking as well as the correct sizes.

West Acres even went above and beyond by putting in more van accessible parking spaces than what is required of them and we want to make sure they are highlighted as a disability-friendly business in the F-M area.

It is important for businesses to make accessibility a priority as people with disabilities have money to spend at those businesses; if they cannot access your parking lot it doesn’t matter how accessible the inside is because they will be taking their business elsewhere. It has been 28 years since the passing of the Americans with Disabilities Act which means there has been plenty of time for any business to work towards making their business accessible, even one small step at a time it shows your community that you care about them.
